The Holley Dual-Sync Distributor for Ford 302 isn't mandatory for your EFI installation. But if you want to accomplish ECU timing control or a full-sequential fueling strategy, this is far and away the best use of your time and money.
If you have the technical saavy to replace drop the distributor into the engine and bolt it down then you are half way to establishing both crank and camshaft timing for your new Holley ECU. The distributor features a 10-pin connectore that is direct-connect to the 10-pin ignition connector on the Holley ECU Main Harness. A few more steps to set alighment and you're done.
Even if you use your standard distributor as a crank timing sensor, you would still have to come up with some creative way to sense cam timing. And, once that is done, unless you have one a distributor that is capable of allowing the ECU to perform electronic spark timing, you still don't have a way to do ECU spark timing control. With this Holley Dual Sync Distributor you get all of that in one simple package.
This distributor is appropriate for Windsor engines with 8.2-inch block deck height (nominally, 221, 260, 289, and 302 CID.) For Windsor engines with 9.5-inch block height (nominally, 351W) choose this distributor instead.
