The Holley Dual-Sync Distributor for Ford 351W isn't mandatory for your EFI installation. But if you want to accomplish ECU timing control or a full-sequential fueling strategy, this is far and away the best use of your time and money.
If you have the technical saavy to replace drop the distributor into the engine and bolt it down then you are half way to establishing both crank and camshaft timing for your new Holley ECU. The distributor features a 10-pin connectore that is direct-connect to the 10-pin ignition connector on the Holley ECU Main Harness. A few more steps to set alighment and you're done.
Even if you use your standard distributor as a crank timing sensor, you would still have to come up with some creative way to sense cam timing. And, once that is done, unless you have one a distributor that is capable of allowing the ECU to perform electronic spark timing, you still don't have a way to do ECU spark timing control. With this Holley Dual Sync Distributor you get all of that in one simple package.
Does your application call for a lower-profile distributor than the standard Holley Dual-Sync Distributor? Now you can choose between the normal dual-sync and the new low-profile versions of this great distributor. The standard-height distributor is roughly 8 inches tall from the gasket flange to the top of the spark towers. The low-profile version is roughly 6 1/2 inches from gasket flange to the top of the spark plug towers. By comparison, the Ford TFI distributor for the Ford 351W is 8 3/4 inches in this same dimension. See the comparison image above. NOTE! The low-profile version will not fit all intake manifolds. Use the dimensional drawing above to confirm that your manifold will allow the distributor top to sit low enough into the intake manifold so that the gasket mating surfaces meet.
Note: This stadard-version part number (565-201) is manufactured for Holley by MSD and supersedes the old part number (565-101.)
